The Aiken Fountain

Located at Morgan Circle, the fountain was erected in the early 1900's. In the 1960's, money was raised from the community to renovate the fountain and Morgan Circle as we see it today.1997 Medallion
Old Aiken Post Office

The old Post Office, located at the intersection of Park Ave. and Laurens Street, was started in 1910 and completed in May of 1912.  The building
served as the location for the post office until 197l.1998 Medallion
Aiken Institute

Built in 1891, the Aiken Institute first opened as a graded school of nine grades and operated until 1936 with the opening of Aiken High School.  The original school and newer annex later housed the Aiken Elementary School and now the Aiken County Public Library.1999 Medallion
Aiken County Courthouse

The Aiken County was Courthouse was built in1881,  in the right of way of Chesterfield Street at Park Avenue.  The building was remodeled in 1934 and again in 1987.  The building is now called the Aiken County Judicial Center.2000 Medallion
Best Friend

Named because the Charleston merchants thought the engine would be the friend they needed to help lure cotton trade to the port city.  Six months after starting service, the engine exploded & its parts used to build the to build a new engine, the Phoenix.2001Medallion

The Willcox

Built as a private home in the late 1890s by Frederick S. Willcox on the corner of Chesterfield Street.  In 1898, Willcox opened his house as an inn, beginning the Willcox Inn. 2003 Medallion
Whiskey Road & Easy Street Sign

Legend has it that early colonists gave the named "Whiskey Road" to the old Indian trail that was used to haul whiskey to Fort Moore for transport to the upstate.  This intersection is one that both locals and visitors alike, identify with Aiken.2004 Medallion
Aiken Railroad Station

The Aiken Railroad Station was built in 1899 to replace a smaller station located on the southwest corner of Union
Street at Railroad Avenue.  The new station was sited in the Union Street parkway at Park Avenue.  The station served Aiken for over 50 years.2005 Medallion
USPA Gold Cup Polo

Polo was first introduced to the. United States in 1876 and has been one  of the features of the winter season in Aiken since. 1882.  In 2005, high goal polo came to Aiken with the 2005 USPA  Gold Cup Championship.2006 Medallion
Banksia

Originally a 1930's Winter Colony mansion, the 3.5 acre grounds is now home to the Aiken County Historical Museum, an 1808 log cabin and an 1890's one-room schoolhouse.  From 1974 to 1990 Banksia was home to the Aiken County Library.  2007 Medallion
The Memorial Gate at Hitchcock Woods

This brick gateway to the Hitchcock Woods was dedicated in Francis R. Hitchcock’s memory by his friends in 1929.2008 Medallion
The Old Police Station Entry

In 1937 the City of Aiken Police Station caught on fire.  This arch is all that is left of the station where the City of Aiken Municipal Center is now located.2009 Medallion
Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum

Opened in 1977, the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum is located in historic Hopelands Gardens. Thirty-nine champion Thoroughbreds that  have trained at the Aiken Training Track are immortalized in the Hall of Fame.
